Itineraries

The position of the farmhouse "The Lupa" invites the discovery of several tourist routes which characterise a geographical area which has particularly rich destinations from a historical, cultural and artistic point of view.
On the Bolognese side one can find the towns of Bazzano with its mediaeval fortress, Monteveglio well-known for its famous 12th century Abbey and its castle dating back to the year one thousand, it is also possible to visit the regional park surrounding the Abbey. Continuing, one can reach Bologna one of the most important Italian exhibition centres, chief town famous for its two leaning towers, its churches, among which Saint Petronius and the Saint Luke sanctuary with its characteristic portico. Bologna is also famous for the numerous antique buildings and rich works of art. The Modena area also has a very wide and varied choice of things to see, from the not too far mediaeval castle in Vignola (a small city located in the Cherry Valley), which can be visited with local guides on request, to Spilamberto with its characteristic mediaeval tower, home of the Aromatic Balsamic vinegar, to Modena admired for the beauty of its Romanesque Duomo its Ghirlandina and for the Doge's Palace home of the military academy.
Let's not forget Nonantola well known for its Benedettina Abbey which has Longobard origins and was founded in the 7th century A.D. The hills are dotted with numerous small towns such as Guiglia, with its castle, Zocca sorrounded by a multitude of characteristic hamlets to visit and various turistic routes to discover, Roccamalatina, well-known for its famous Stones which can be climbed up to the top and from which the famous national park takes its name. Along the west side of the Modena province we recommend a visit to the FERRARI MUSEUM in Maranello and further on, to Sassuolo for health and wellbeing enthusiasts, the Salvarola baths and the Salse of Nirano, or, strange volcanic phenomena in a vast protected area. An hour by car and you can find Ferrara and Ravenna where it's possible to see the splendid Theodoric and Galla Placida Mausoleums (N.d.T. a building, especially a large and stately one, housing a tomb or tombs) with their Byzantine mosaics which are worldly unique. Ferrara is also famous for its beaches, such as Spina, where one of the most important ports of the Roman Empire lay, and Comacchio, miniature Venice, well-known for the number of canals which cross the city. Another place within driving distance is the Romagna Riviera where enjoyment is guaranteed. During both the Summer and Autumn seasons Modena has many cultural village events. The cherries in bloom festival in Vignola at Easter, the Saint John of Spilamberto festival in June, The grape festival in Castelvetro in September, the potato festival in Montese in October, the chestnut festival in Zocca in November and the sword of the Contrari festival in Savignano in the middle of September are a few of the village events.

For more details about these activities you can consult the various web sites mentioned above.

Lambrusco
